De La Riva position:
- From my open guard with opponent standing
- I put my same-side leg around my opponent’s front leg
- My hand grips opponents inside ankle (the one my leg is wrapped around)
- I can/should push far hips/knee with free leg while pulling with DLR hook
De La Riva Sweep
- get to De La Riva
- get a collar grip
- push opponent away with free leg
- when opponent pushes back, pull them down
- think about placing them on the mat behind the shoulder on the same side as the DLR hook
De La Riva X-Guard
- get to De La Riva
- grab opponent’s far side wrist
- use my free foot to plant on opponent’s far side hip and drive my hips into the air
- once my hips are up, move the foot that is planted on my opponent’s hip under my other leg to get to a De La Riva X-guard
De La Riva Back Take
- get to De La Riva
- use free hand to grab near side wrist
- Similar to x-guard, drive hips up by pushing off opponent’s far hip
- rotate around the hooked leg while pushing your opponent to face away from you; at the same time, rap your free foot around the hooked leg
- Transition ankle grip to grab the belt by the hip of the hooked leg, use this to continue to pull you around to opponents back
- you should now be in a position that looks like the butterfly guard with the opponent facing away from you
- kick your legs out to bring the opponent down onto their bum; follow through with your kick so that your legs land with hooks in
