This was Spencer's first night! Woo!
Notes:
- If you are in someone's closed guard, keep posture very high and far back
- If you are going to break posture, commit to it for a pass (like technique 4)
Technique 1 (Break, Knee pass)
- From within opponent's closed guard
- Shift so one of my knees is directly below opponent's tail bone
- Think about a chopping block/wedge
- Get elbows on opponent's thighs, keep hands on opponent's hips
- Shift weight to elbows, keep grip on hips
- Note: Shift weight, don't push on elbows
- Pop Knee up inside the middle of opponent's legs when the opponent's guard breaks
- Slide my knee over the top of the opponent's opposite side leg, flow to side control
Technique 2 (Single Stack)
- From within opponent's closed guard
- Bring one knee up to the outside of opponent's hips
- Grab opponent's belt with the same side arm as my raised knee
- Shift weight to other side elbow to break guard, let opponent's leg slide down my knee that's on the ground like a ramp
- Underhook the leg that is on top of my raised leg, post opponent's other leg to keep them from re-closing their guard
- Press the raised leg into opponent, pass the leg across my body
Technique 3 (Double Stack)
- From within opponent's closed guard
- Bring Elbows within opponent's legs, wiggle them down to get leverage
- Flare elbows out
- Quickly wrap arms around both legs
- Knee walk forward lift opponent without much back strength
- Shrug knees to side
Technique 4 (Standing Break)
- From within opponent's closed guard
- 2 on 1 grip on opponent's wrist
- Stand up by bringing knee up on the side of the controlled wrist
- Straighten back (deadlift posture)
- Push knee down to break guard
- Throw other leg across centerline or pass in any other way I can
Technique 5 (Rotating Pressure my favorite
- From within opponent's closed guard
- My ear to to opponents chest, head putting pressure on opponent's chin
- Great to get an underhook
- Keep belly pressure on opponent (i.e. don't need to tripod too high up)
- Tripod up, rotate to the side until opponent's hips tip
- Quickly push opponent's bottom knee down to break the guard
Technique 6 (Arm Pass)
- From within opponent's closed guard
- Grab opponents wrist with same-side grip
- pass that grip under opponent's butt to other hand
- Break guard with weight on free elbow
- Pass w/ knee slide
- Lift wrist up to flip them onto their belly, take back
